About Our Speaker
Lisa happily spends her professional life divided between science and technology. After earning an undergraduate degree in Information Technology and spending eight years in the IT world, she was ready to get back to her original passion for science and in 2009 completed a masters degree in Geography from the University of New Mexico.
Lisa now works at UNM in the research and academia realm as a geospatial scientist. In her role at Natural Heritage New Mexico, a division of the Museum of Southwestern Biology she provides and coordinates complex research, data analysis, systems design, programming, and implementation of computer-based GIS/GPS mapping in support of conservation biology. Lisa is also an adjunct instructor for the Department of Geography and teaches undergraduate/graduate courses in GIS. She has various research interests including GPS and currently has an academic article in press on the positional accuracy of differentially corrected consumer grade GPS units.
In conjunction with her work, Lisa has pushed for the adoption of modern web mapping tools with various research groups on campus. She works primarily with ESRI's ArcGIS mapping software, using ArcGIS Server to publish mapping services and create web mapping applications using the ArcGIS API for Flex. Lisa is particularly interested in bringing wildlife conservation models to an interactive and modern web interface.
In her spare time Lisa can be found spending quality time with her adorable and perfect dogs Gryphon and Lily, and ultra geeky husband Brian.
