Recap: Getting Git
April 28, 2011 Zerek Welz
For our April 6 event, Brian Arnold discussed why you should use Git, how to do so, and how you can use it to share your work with others via Github. If you were unable to attend or need a refresher, we've got you covered:
April, the month of Fools, Patriots and the Earth. The month where Brian Arnold decided to come down to Webuquerque and share some knowledge on Git. Brian covered the basics to get you up and running with your own repository to keep your work safe with a clear history of where you came from.
- Strong community with a wealth of resources
- Good documentation
- Strong against corruption of data while being highly performant
- Nearly every operation is local so no server is needed
To install, follow the instructions for your operating system. (Note: in Terminal, don't enter the $, as those represent the prompt.)
The repository Brian used for his demonstrations is available on GitHub.
